David Adedeji Adeleke OON (born November 21, 1992), popularly known as Davido, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer. He is one of the most influential Afrobeats singers of the 21st century, one of the finest Afrobeats artistes of all time
Davido was born in Atlanta, United States and reared in Lagos, Nigeria. In his first foray into music he was part of the group KB International. Davido went to Oakwood University to study business administration, but dropped out to produce beats and record vocal references. His rise to stardom came after the release of “Dami Duro”, the second single off his first studio album Omo Baba Olowo (2012), which also produced six other songs; “Back When”, “Ekuro”, “Overseas”, “All of You”, “Gbon Gbon” and “Feel Alright”. In 2012, he earned the Next Rated award at The Headies. Between 2013 and 2015 he launched the successful singles “Gobe”, “One of a Kind”, “Skelewu”, “Aye”, “Tchelete (Goodlife)”, “Naughty”, “Owo Ni Koko”, “The Sound” and “The Money”.
In January 2016, Davido revealed via Twitter that he had secured a record deal with Sony Music and a few months later, he created the record company Davido Music Worldwide, which acts including Dremo and Peruzzi are currently signed to. In July 2016, Davido signed a record deal with Sony’s RCA Records and released the five-track Extended Play (EP) Son of Mercy in October of the same year, which was supported by the singles “Gbagbe Oshi”, “How Long” and “Coolest Kid in Africa”. In April 2017, Davido re-negotiated his contract with Sony over creative control difficulties and released five songs in the same year including “If” and “Fall”. “If” created social-media engagement throughout the world while “Fall” became the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history. Davido’s second studio album A Good Time dropped in November 2019, with the tracks “If”, “Fall”, “Assurance”, “Blow My Mind” and “Risky” leading up to its release.

New African magazine named Davido one of the 100 most-influential Africans in 2019. His third studio album A Better Time was published on November 13, 2020, and in February 2021 he was featured on Time magazine’s Time 100 Next List.
Davido’s fourth studio album Timeless was released on March 31, 2023. He is a cultural ambassador of Nigeria and a leading voice of human rights in Africa. He is also one of the most following African musicians on both Instagram and Twitter.
In November 2023, Davido received three nominations at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards for “Unavailable”, “Feel” and his album Timeless. In January 2024, Davido was nominated three times at the 55th NAACP Image Awards.
