Afrobeats superstar Davido has addressed criticism from APC praise singer Dauda Kahutu Rarara, insisting that patriotism involves speaking out about the country’s security challenges and not protecting political interests.

Rarara had blasted Davido for attending the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert in Los Angeles where the singer wore a customised jacket with the names of abducted pupils and teachers from Oyo State and “Bring Them Home” written on it.

Rarara said taking Nigeria’s insecurity concerns to an international stage could tarnish the nation’s image.

Davido had initially replied with a short social media post making fun of the singer’s comments, which led to another reply from Rarara.

Later, the Afrobeats star released a more detailed statement defending his actions and the disagreement heated up.

Davido said that the attention drawn to the plight of the kidnapped children and teachers should not be viewed from a political perspective.

“It would be irresponsible to remain silent on insecurity,” he said, adding that the safety of citizens should take precedence over partisan considerations.

His words …

“Damn it, no Nigerian should be silent over the insecurity ravaging the nation and should not stop others from expressing their views openly. There is nothing to be proud of in displaying bias and putting personal and political interests above the goals of the community. Be a patriot for your country, stop putting politics before the truth and fear God in all your doings @kahuturarara “
