Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr., known by his stage name Shatta Wale (previously Bandana), is a Ghanaian-born reggae-dancehall artist born on October 17, 1984 to Charles Mensah Snr. and Mama Elsie.

After high school, Shatta Wale released the successful song “Bandana from Ghana” and changed his name to “Bandana”. The song created huge air waves in the Ghanaian music business in 2004. Shatta Wale’s rapid rise to the occasion was at the 2013 VGMA awards when he hurled lyrical obscenities to VGMA because he claimed they stole him of the Dancehall artist of the year to a female Dancehall musician “Kaakie” The song was obscene in its lyrics but so anticipated by the media that it was his musical breakthrough.

Dancehall king, whose biggest song hit in 2013, grabbed the airwaves by surprise. Shatta Wale’s music revenue is produced mostly through the hosting of performances which attracts most 1000’s of Ghanaian youngsters.

In 2015, Shatta Wale refused to be nominated in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards even though he could have won the prestigious Artiste & Song of the year twice in a row with his hit songs “Dancehall Commando” featuring Sarkodie, “Party all night” long featuring Jah Vinci, “Wine ya waist” featuring Davido and “Korle Gonno” among many hit songs he released the previous year because he was involved in an impending court case with the organizers of the Awards Charter House Productions Ltd for allegedly making defamatory remarks against the CEO of Charter House in a video he posted on his Facebook page.

Shatta Wale’s hardwork in 2014, has won him a nomination for the maiden and extremely coveted GN Bank Awards as the People’s Choice Male Musician of the year.
