Bianca Odinakachukwu Olivia Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the sixth child of Christian Onoh, who was the Governor of Anambra State, and his wife Carol, a college principal, spent her childhood in rural Ngwo along with her seven siblings: Lilian, Josephine, Nuzo, Gabriel, Stella, Christian, and Josef. She went to Ackworth School in Pontefract, St Andrews College in Cambridge, and Cambridge Tutorial College, where she finished her A-levels.
She swiftly started a mixed honours degree in Politics, Economics, and Law at the University of Buckingham, but after her father, who was a lawyer, advised her to concentrate solely on law and join the family business, she transferred to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
After graduating, Odumegwu-Ojukwu went to the Nigerian Law School, which resulted in her being admitted to the bar.
Career
After law school, Bianca practiced law for a short time before she decided to leave it behind to concentrate on her house, her cosmetics venture, Bianca Blend, and her interior design business, Mirabella. Even though she had her doubts about modelling, Bianca Onoh appeared in print ads for her company.
She established Hope House Trust, a non-governmental organization dedicated to rehabilitating juvenile offenders in Enugu. Bianca holds multiple titles and roles: she is a diplomat, lawyer, businesswoman, beauty pageant titleholder, and an international pageant winner.
In addition, she holds the position of Chairman at the Mayrock Memorial Foundation. In December 1988, Odumegwu-Ojukwu, a former Miss Martini winner from her teen years in England, entered the competition for Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria and was crowned, reigning for most of 1989.
In 1989, she won the Miss Africa pageant in Gambia, which allowed her to represent her country at Miss World in Hong Kong and Miss Universe in Mexico. In that same year, she made history as the first African to win Miss Intercontinental and was named Miss Congeniality at Miss Charm in Russia, where she also reached the semi-finals. She clinched the title in the global Miss Intercontinental pageant.
In 2011, President Goodluck Jonathan appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs; she then served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ghana in 2012 and later to the Kingdom of Spain.
In 2016, Odumegwu-Ojukwu completed her master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy at Alfonso X el Sabio University in Spain. Additionally, she holds a Diploma in Human Rights and International Relations from the Berg Institute and a Diploma in Conflict Dynamics and Cooperation from the University of Peace in Costa Rica.
She serves as Nigeria’s permanent representative at the United Nations World Tourism Organization. On October 23, 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made changes to his government, with Ojukwu being appointed as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu takes over from Yusuf Tuggar, who recently stepped down to run for governor of Bauchi in 2027. She held the position of Presidential Advisor in the past. She is a principal member of the Board of Trustees of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
The political party was founded by her late husband. For nearly twenty years, it has maintained political power in Anambra State.
Awards
Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu received the Certificate of Merit from El Mundo Diplomatico for her work in establishing effective forums for constructive engagement between Nigeria and Spain, and in 2014, Dutch magazine The Voice honored her as Africa’s Outstanding Ambassador.
At its Silver Jubilee celebration in 2016, the Government of Anambra State, Nigeria, honored her with the “Ambassador of Excellence” Award.
She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, the political party founded by her late husband, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, which has maintained political control in Anambra State for over a decade.
She was unable to represent her senate district in 2018 due to problems in her party’s primary elections. At present, she serves as the secretary of the Truth, Justice, and Peace Commission, which was set up in 2022 to examine the fundamental causes of violence, insecurity, and separatist movements.
In South-Eastern Nigeria, she is a member of the Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), named after her husband, and the Governing Board of Christian Chukwuma Onoh College of Education (CCOCE), which was established in honour of her father.
Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu tied the knot with her husband in a stunning wedding in Abuja on November 12, 1994, after dating since 1989. While Bianca was 27, Emeka was in his 60s.
Emeka, her husband of almost 17 years, passed away in the UK in 2011 after a brief illness; he was 78. Chineme, Afamefuna, and Nwachukwu are the three children of the couple.
She notes that, although she was happy to have found her partner, she wouldn’t recommend her daughter make the same choice about getting married.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu holds many traditional titles in her homeland, including the highest chieftaincy title awarded to women in her territory. Lilian Onoh, her sister, served as Nigeria’s ambassador to the Republic of Namibia.
