Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, known by his stage name D-Black, is a giant in the Ghanaian music industry. He is noted not only for his many talents, but also for his business acumen and charitable activities. D-Black was born on 12th January, 1987 in Accra, Ghana and has made his own name in the music world, bagging awards and doing his own bit. D-Black Early Life

Blackmore was born in Accra, Ghana on 12 January 1987 to Ghanaian-English father John Derek Blackmore and Ghanaian mother Adeline Boateng.

D-Black Educational Background

He had his basic schooling at the Ridge Church School and thereafter progressed to the Pope John Senior High School. He holds a B. A in Economics from the University of Cape Coast and BFA Theatre Arts / Music from the University of Ghana.

Musical Background

In 2009 he recorded a group album entitled Target Practice with Kwaku T. The following year they broke up and went separate ways.

A year later he published a second album, called Music, Love & Life, which proved to be more popular than the first, allowing him to go on tour throughout ten cities in Ghana.

Blackmore released his third album, The Revelation in 2012 which had guest appearances from other rappers such as Sarkodie, Mo Cheddah and Joey B. One of the songs from the album, “Vera” was played on several Ghanaian radio stations and topped the Ghanaian urban music charts at number 1. Blackmore earned the “Song of the Year” and “Collaboration of the Year” honors for “Vera” at the 2013 Ghana Music honors UK .

He participated in the U.K. Afrobeats Music Festival in July 2013, followed by a USA tour in September. In February 2014 Blackmore toured Europe in the Netherlands, Italy, and the United Kingdom. In 2014 Blackmore started work on his third album, releasing the first song from it, “Personal Person” in April.

“Personal Person” was the number 1 song on the Ghanaian music charts in July 2015. In 2016, Blackmore released his fourth album, Lightwork.

He runs several enterprises including Black Avenue Clothing, Livewire Events and Black Avenue Films/TV.
