Ladipo Eso (born April 29, 1992) is one of the best rappers in the Nigerian music space today. The Mavin Records signed talent who is known in the industry by the stage name, Ladipoe has established himself to be a commercially successful and award-winning artiste.

The music maestro teamed up with music group Show Dem Camp to release the smash tune, Feel Alright, and became a success in the business.

Two years after joining the Mavin Family, he released the blockbuster track, Jaiye in 2019. The success of the song was surpassed by Know You, a song featuring Simi which won the Best Collaboration Category at The Headies in 2020.

His debut EP, Providence, was released to critical acclaim in 2021. Months previously, he’d taken the whole Afrobeats music scene by storm with the chart-topping party jam hit, Feeling with BNXN. The song further solidified Ladipoe’s place as the King Of Afro Rap in Nigeria.

Early Life

Ladipoe was born on the 29th of April 1992 into the distinguished family of Mr and Mrs Eso. The Eso family were originally from the old Yoruba city of Ilesa in Osun State, although they lived in Lagos City.

His parents named the rapper Ladipo Eso and reared him in the Christian Faith as well. He had his basic and secondary schooling in Nigeria’s commercial metropolis, where he spent his formative years, before traveling overseas for higher studies.

Ladipoe studied sciences and has always been interested in music and it actually dates back to his high school days. Listening to the songs of American rappers like Eminem, 2pac, The Notorious B.I.G, Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z inspired Ladipoe to become a rapper. He spent his teenage years writing rap rhymes and performing them for his family, friends and classmates to admire.

Ladipoe was into rap music but had aspirations of a professional music career in Nigeria. And he knew that if he was going to make it, he had to fine-tune his sound and write songs that the Nigerians could empathize with.

Educational Background

Ladipoe’s parents are from an upper class family thus he had the chance to get decent education.

He attended top tier private institutions in posh neighbourhoods of Lagos for his elementary, middle and high school education.

He graduated from University Of North Carolina, Pembroke. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry from the US College.

Musical Career

After he finished his undergraduate studies, Ladipoe returned to his fatherland to pursue his long-standing passion of being a rapper. In 2017, he hit his first milestone when he signed a record deal with Mavin Records and became a part of Mavin Family. He became the first rapper signed to the company since its rebranding from Mo’Hit Records in 2012.

The scientist-turned-rapper grasped the opportunity to prove his mettle when he was featured on Show Dem Camp‘s hit, Feel Alright, in 2017. Many Nigerians were mind-blown by the artiste’s rap skills, which kept him in the limelight for the next few months.

In 2019, he released his first official mixtape Talk About Poe. The mixtape was his introduction to rap music aficionados in the country and also helped him warm his way into the hearts of many Nigerians. That same year he launched a smash track, Jaiye, which established him as one of the prominent faces of Afro Rap in the country.

Ladipoe’s career peaked in 2020 when he dropped the much-anticipated duet with Simi, Know You. The song became an instant sensation, going viral almost immediately with millions of fans using it for TikTok videos and other video material. Weeks after its release, the song went on to become the top hit on Nigeria radio having got enormous exposure across radio stations in the country. Radio exposure has also helped push streams on digital music platforms above the 80 million mark.

In May 2021, he decided to thrill his fans with another banger and he requested the services of BNXN (previously known as Buju) to do this. Their cooperation yielded Feeling, their top-charting hit. Like “Know You”, this song was magnified on social media as many content makers utilized this song as background music in their films and hundreds of fans made covers of the song and submitted it online. “Feeling” is a three-time number 1 on the TurnTable 50 Chart.

Six months later, Ladipoe launched his much-anticipated debut EP, Providence. 6-track project with appearances from Rema, Fireboy DML and Amaarae. The EP includes all of the top charting tracks such as Providence, Love Essential, Running, Law Of Attraction, Afro Jigga and LOTR II.

Ladipoe was invited to perform by organizers MultiChoice at the opening ceremony of the sixth season of Big Brother Naija. He also played at Fireboy DML’s Apollo Tour in 2022 in the USA, performing live in performances staged in Dallas, Seattle, L.A and San Fransisco. He also visited Los Angeles in March 2022, playing to a sold-out crowd in the city.

Personal Life

The rapper Ladipoe stepped into the 30 age floor on the 29th Of April. He lives in one of Lagos’s wealthiest neighbourhoods and has a fleet of exotic cars.

He is also a part of the music group, Collectiv3, which he formed along with his pals. In college, he had been a member of Lyrically Equipped, which he co-founded with his friends Kurt and Jeffery.

Ladipoe is one of the judges of the Hennessy versus Class Of 2022 and has been touring over the country to interview artists who audition for the program. As a judge in competitions, he takes this chance to coach upcoming rappers and assist them in reaching success in the industry.

Fans were caught off-guard when Ladipoe dropped a video in August 2021 declaring he was now a parent.

He is signed to Mavin Records with Crayon, Boy Spyce, Johnny Drille, Rema, Ayra Starr, Korede Bello and Magixx.

In the video, Ladipoe was accompanied by a baby boy. However, he has not revealed the identity of the mother of his child/wife and has preferred to keep his connection with his partner out of sight.
