Olamide Gbenga Adedeji (born March 15, 1989) is one of the major ambassadors of Afrobeats who has helped shape the culture of the genre in the global market.
The renowned Nigerian musician, known professionally as Olamide or Olamide Baddo, is a singer, rapper and music mogul.
With the release of his successful debut studio album, Raspodi, in 2011, Olamide became known for indigenous rap (Yoruba). He then releases another excellent album titled YBNL with big tracks like Stupid Love, Voice Of The Street and Ilefo Illuminati.
The skilled musician who raps in Yoruba and English is the creator and owner of YBNL Records which has spawned other music artists including Lil Kesh, Fireboy DML, Adekunle Gold, Lyta, Limerick, Temmie Ovwasa, Chinko Ekun, Yomi Blaze, Picazo, Asake and Viktoh.
Olamide Adedeji is a notable Nigerian indigenous hip hop artist and lyricist. He is popularly known as ‘Olamide Baddo’, ‘Baddo Sneh’ or just ‘Olamide’.
He is the founder of the free record label YBNL Nation that has a few famous Nigerian music stars signed to it. Olamide is an award winning Nigerian rapper who sings in his native tongue Yoruba.
Early Life
Olamide was born on 15th Of March 1989 to the family of Pa Adedeji. He is from a polygamous household and his mother is the second wife of the family. He is the second child of Mrs. Ronke Osisanya Adedeji. He has two siblings: an elder brother named Eniola Olamilekan (aka DJ Enimoney) and a younger sister named TemmyGold.
His parent’s called him Olamide Gbenga. He and his brothers and sisters grew up in the heart of Bariga, a city in Mainland Lagos. Olamide had been interested in pursuing music from his teenage age. He was found to have musical talent as he was adept at composing rap songs, and this selection was made. His initial fans were his brothers and friends from the neighborhood, for whom he routinely played.
His music career got off to a rocky start but he kept the dream alive and didn’t give up on his ambition. He began rapping in English first to make himself stand out from the crop of rappers in the country. He moved to indigenous rap, and started writing songs in his own dialect, Yoruba.
This decision later in life proved to be a good move and was the reason for the actualization of his dream of becoming a music star.
Olamide was born on 15th of March, 1989 in Bariga, Lagos, Nigeria and he has two different kin. He attended the primary and secondary schools in Lagos before proceeding to Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State to study Mass Communication.
Education
Olamide had his primary and secondary school education in top public schools in Bariga.
He had his secondary school education and was thereafter admitted into the Ogun State owned Tai Solarin University Of Education. But he had to leave the institution because of financial difficulties.
He found his talent in music in 2000 and later started his music career. He was popularized after 10 years of waiting with the release of Eni Duro. His first single ‘Eni Duro’ was released under the name Coded Tunes and was managed by Toni Payne. The same year Olamide later performed at the hip-bounce world honors function.
Baddo Sneh started off with ID Cabasa’s Coded Tunes record label led by Toni Payne where he did his debut studio collection. He quit in 2012 to start his own record label.
Career
Olamide’s career began to bloom while he was signed to ID Cabasa’s Coded Tunes Records. In 2011 he released his commercial debut album Raspodi under Coded Tunes. The album’s lead track, Omo To Shan helped consolidate Olamide‘s position as the new king of Indigenous Rap (Yoruba). The single also opened the way for more amazing collaborations with big stars like D’banj, Reminisce, 9ice and Wizkid in the business.
In 2013, Olamide recorded and released his second album, Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL) alongside producers ID Cabasa, Samklef, Pheelz and 2kriss. The project had a collaboration with some of the most accepted in the business such as Dammy Krane, Kayswitch, Davido, Tiwa Savage and Reminisce.
Olamide also released the third album the following year. November, 2013 saw the release of Baddest Guy Ever Liveth. The 13-track project contained 12 of its tunes produced by Pheelz and featured guest artists like Ice Prince, Pepenazi, Viktoh, Phyno and Bez.
The album won Best Album Of The Year at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards, and includes top-charting hits such as Eleda Mi O, Yemi My Lover, Durosoke and Turn Up. The album also took up Best Rap Album and Album Of The Year at The Headies in 2014.
The follow-up album to the music project, Baddest Guy Ever Liveth, was released on the 14th Of November 2014 and is titled Street OT. This is Olamide‘s fourth studio album and contains smash hits including Story For The Gods and Goons Mi. Maverick sound producers Young John, Pheelz and B-Banks were on its production.
On November 23, 2015, Olamide released his fifth studio album, Eyan Mayweather, which has 21 tracks. The project did not have a guest artist. He dropped a collaboration project with Ibo rapper, Phyno titled 2 Kings in April that year. The album is a collaborative venture of Penthhauze Music and YBNL Records.
For his sixth studio album called The Glory, Olamide worked with Pheelz, Phyno, Burna Boy, Davolee and Wande Coal. The 16-track project was produced by Pheelz. The album was published on the 23rd Of December 2016.
Olamide released a 9-track EP, 999, and two albums, Carpie Diem and UY Scuti, between 2020 and 2021.
999 was released on the 10th Of February 2020 as a surprise project with no announcement to the public in advance. At the same time, Carpie Diem was released on the 8th Of October 2020 and consists of 12 tracks.
Olamide’s son inspired UY Scuti which was released on the 18th Of June 2021. Olamide has announced that he has another album in the works which will be his last full-length production as an artist.
YBNL Nation
Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL) Nation Label is a free record name founded by Olamide Adedeji in 2012. The word is slang for little fellow bringing in income without shady dealings. The label had a lot of musicians on it, such as Lil Kesh, Chinko Ekun, Adekunle Gold, D J Enimoney, Picazo, Temmie Ovwasa and a few more like Fireboy DML. Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, Chinko Ekun, Lyta, Limerick, Picazo Rhap and Yomi Blaze are no longer with the label, although Fireboy DML and others are still signed.
It got the record mark of the year in the City People Entertainment Award in 2016.
Other Business Deals
Olamide’s musical success had offered him many opportunities to be endorsed as a brand minister to certain leading companies. Some of these brands include Hennessy, Globacom, Etisalat and several others.
For example, he became the first Nigerian rapper to secure a sponsorship deal with Ciroc Ultra Premium Vodka, a mixed drink. In 2013, he became a brand ambassador for various nairas and joined worldwide icons like Rick Ross, Ray Jay, French Montana and others.
In 2017, he became the first brand ambassador for Sterling Bank and became the second celebrity in music to be fully endorsed into the banking sector after Ice Prince.
Also, Olamide became the brand ambassador for Goldberg Lager beer in April 2019, alongside Odunlade Adekola, a Nigerian Star in the movie industry.
Personal Life

Olamide is a family man. He is happily married to Mrs. Adebukunmi Aisha Suleiman Adedeji. They are the parents of two sons. The first is named Maximilian Boluwatife while the second is named Tunrepin Myles.
The Adedejis live a very luxurious life in one of the highbrow areas in Lagos Island. Olamide has had a significant impact on pop culture in Nigeria with his music sound and fashion sense. He is noted for having popularized several street idioms that were prevalent in their time.
In 2020, Olamide and YBNL Records struck a partnership contract with worldwide distributor, Empire. The artistes signed under him also benefit from the pact.
Olamide and Adebunkunmi Aisha Suleiman have been dating long before he became popular in the music industry. He popped the question in March 2018.
