Stanley Omah Didia (born May 19, 1997) has been in the wells of music from his teen years.

He is better known by his stage name Omah Lay. He started as a rapper but has since become an A-list singer, songwriter and record producer whose impact has been felt all over Africa.

He emerged into the music world with the debut song, You, which remains a jam for most Afrobeats enthusiasts. In 2021, he bagged the coveted Next Rated Award at the 14th Headies Music Awards.

Omah Lay’s Early Life

Didias have always been music lovers. Omah Lay’s paternal grandfather was a drummer for Highlife main act – Celestine Ukwa. So Stanley’s parents weren’t surprised when their son decided to pursue the path of music.

He was born on 19th May 1997 in Port Harcourt. He grew up in Marine Base and is not a stranger to the tough life of PH city. When he hit teenhood, he started wearing the cap of creativity. He dreamed of being the next major rapper, gave himself the nickname Lil King, and would entertain his neighbors with freestyle rap songs.

He lost interest in rap music and decided to transition to music production, and started to apprentice with some of his buddies who were producers. In a few months, he had learnt the trick and was a past master at the game. He began to work with rising artists in Port Harcourt to produce quality music.

But the swinger lifestyle tugged on his heart, and he decided to give it another attempt. He thought he had the creative bug in him and sat down to write the songs Do Not Disturb and Hello Brother which he recorded and distributed to the world. That was in 2019. By this time, he had rebranded and decided on the stage name – Omah Lay.

The tracks did really well and attracted some attention from record labels, who grew interested in his work. He finally landed with Lagos-based label, KeyQaad Records, and so had to relocate out of the city in pursuit of his aspirations.

He passed his Common Entrance Examination and SSCE with good results and finished his primary and secondary schools.

After relocating to Lagos, Omah Lay began to work in earnest to develop songs that his expanding fanbase would enjoy and connect with. He let his fans wait for a few months, then launched the tune You which was a huge success for a first single. The song launched Omah Lay into the limelight, and he became one of the stars to watch out for in Afro-pop and Afrobeats in Nigeria.

He didn’t let the fires of his fame fizzle out before blessing the world with his first EP, Get Layd in May 2020. The initiative confirmed the prediction that Omah Lay was going to achieve greater success in the sector. The songs had tremendous playing on renowned radio stations and TV stations in the country.

As his name grew across the continent, he became the performer of choice that brands or music aficionados would pay to perform at shows and concerts. His special singing technique and lyricism has seen him inclusion in songs by famous music artiste. on 2020, he featured on the popular single, Infinity alongside Olamide. He drew the interest of Ghanaian female diva, Gyakie, who made him the guest artiste on the remix of her renowned song, Forever. It was launched in March 2021.

He was nominated for the Next Rated Artist Award at the 14th Headies Music Awards in December 2020. He clinched the title in 2021, having beaten other prominent contenders such Bella Shmurda, Tems and Oxlade. He went home in a brand new automobile as part of his gift award.

His second EP project, What Have We Done, took over the music radios for weeks leading up to the end of 2020.
