Reekado Banks comes from a family that loves music. He was born on the 6th of November, 1993, making him 29 years old. His father is a preacher from Ondo State and his mother is a caterer. Also his elder brother is a producer and his elder sister is a gospel vocalist.
Coming from a disciplinarian background with his parents being pastors. Reekado Banks left secondary school at the age of 14. Reekado Banks graduated from the University of Lagos in 2014 with a degree in history and strategic study.
Reekado Banks Music Career
Reekado Banks began recording his debut songs in 2008. His older brother created all his previous tracks and taught him to sing, write and produce. He got his stage name Reekado Banks from the meanings of the two names.
The first part of his stage name means “Strong Ruler” and the second translates roughly to “Wealth”.He has listed Don Jazzy, 2Baba, DJ Jimmy Jatt, Olamide and M.I Abaga as his major musical influences.
His record deal happened because his brother sent some of his songs to Mavin Records for an online talent search. His entries were selected from over 5000 entries and he was signed to Mavin Records.
In an interview with the National Mirror, he said his brother sent his tracks and negotiated with the company on his behalf without his prior authorization. Reekado Banks also told National Mirror that he is a versatile musician who makes music since humans are different and have different likes.
On 21 February 2014, the same day he joined with Mavin Records, Reekado Banks released the track “Turn It Up”. The song also featured Tiwa Savage and was released as his first official single under Mavin Records. He was featured in the critically praised song, ‘Dorobucci’ alongside Don Jazzy, Korede Bello, Tiwa Savage, Di’Ja, Dr SID and D’Prince.
Reekado Banks also partnered with some of the top artists to release three joint tracks, “Adaobi“, “Arise” and “Looku Looku“. On 13th February 2015, he released the Don Jazzy produced song “Katapot”. It was tagged a diss tune to D’banj and Wande Coal. Don Jazzy denied the charges via Twitter in February 2015.
Vanguard Newspaper quoted Reekado Banks as saying he made “Katapot” for his fans.
In July 2015, Reekado Banks inked an endorsement contract with Globacom, a Nigerian telecommunications firm. He announced his departure from Mavins Records on December 7, 2018, after 5 years. He also announced the formation of his independent label, Banks Music.
He terminated his elder brother, Temi Solomon, as his manager in September 2019. When asked the reason he did that, he said, “It was just next level dealings, I wanted to get somewhere else, the vision became a lot farther, like I saw farther than I used to see and I just needed somebody that’ll see as much, most especially somebody that’s been there with other people (artists) but me and my brother are cool”.
Reekado Banks made a comeback in 2021 with a brand new tune titled “Ozumba Mbadiwe” after a period of absence with no popular songs.
